This week’s “Museum Feature of the Week”, is the Land Roller! If you remember, back in February we feature the Snow Roller. This land roller came from a 19th century farm in Durham, Maine, known as “The Vining Place.” In 1924 Anne and Charles Poshkus, Lithuanian immigrants, purchased and operated the farm and used this roller until 1959. Land rollers of this type were used to help resettle the soil following winter freeze up, and also to prepare plowed and harrowed land for pasture use. The roller was given to the museum by Casimara Poshkus McIntire and her husband Merton in honor of her parents Mr. Charles and Anne Poshkus in 1987.
